Aging (Part I)

Aging is not a problem as long as the elderly know how to take care of themselves, keep going with their willpower and aspirations, and continue to be of use by contributing their experience and wisdom while learning to let go.

Aging (Part II)

Genuine youth is in the heart, not in the skin. Focus on the present and keep looking forward, and do away with the problem of being old by awakening the aspiration for enlightenment, dedicating oneself to sentient beings, and learning the bodhisattva spirit.

Illness

Illness is normal and will help us develop a greater understanding of the process of life. We should view illness with detached observation and equanimity, as an experience to pay off our karmic debt.

The Four Sufferings of birth, aging, sickness and death.

Acknowledging the existence of Eight Sufferings in one's life and facing them honestly is the first step out of endless cycles of rebirth.

How to be free of the fear of death?

We are afraid of death because we don't know what happens afterwrad. Such fear is good because it makes us cherish our lives. But constant worry about death is an attachment that is harmful to us.

How to break our attachment to life and death?

If we can face and accept our mortality by applying the concept of impermanence, and always prepare for it, we will be more detached when we or our loved ones die, and therefore suffer less.

How to transcend birth, aging, illness and death?

Buddhism teaches that birth, aging, sickness, and death are all suffering in that they are changing, false image. Even when there is joy it is transient and not forever. To transcend samsara we should prepare our savings of merit to be born in Amitabha Buddha's Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, our final settling place.
