DDM Sydney 3/29 Reciting meditation session personal recount

On 29 March 2024, DDM Sydney held a recitation meditation session at The Buddhist Library. The session was guided by three DDM monastics visiting from Taiwan. The full day meditation was done in noble silence, apart from guided explanations by the monastics. It was grounding to be able to take time out of our usual schedules to spend time with ourselves and be aware of our minds.

There was a combination of different paces during walking and chanting meditation, from slow walking to jogging style chanting meditation. Walking and jogging meditation were repeated four times, and we ended each chanting session with seated meditation.

It was initially challenging to jog and chant so my focus was on breathing properly instead of focusing on chanting Amitabha Buddha. However, once we got into the rhythm of jogging meditation, it became easier to focus on chanting.

The different pace and wooden fish sounds were helpful to encourage us to concentrate on the present moment, otherwise it would be easy to chant out of tune or jog out of pace with others.

It was a calming day being surrounded by peaceful energy while reciting Amitabha. What a blessed day. Thank you kindly to DDM Sydney for organising the event. Amituofo.
