DDM Sangha University is Now Available for Registration – DDM Welcomes All Who Aspire to Become a Monastic

The registration dates for Sangha University in 2023 are from April 1st to May 15th, and the examination dates are set for May 30th and May 31st. Prospective students


• Unmarried male or female lay Buddhists who aspire to become monastics and propagate Chan Buddhism.
• Monks and nuns who accord with Chinese Buddhism and appreciate Dharma Drum Mountain's ideals, on the recommendation of their monasteries.

Admission Requirements

• Age limit: Applicants must be aged 18-40 for women; and 18-42 for men who have completed compulsory military service.

• Academic background: applicants should possess a senior high school/vocational school diploma (or higher).

• Ideal applicants must be sound in body and mind, free of harmful addictions as well as legal, financial, and/or family obligations.

• Overseas Chinese and foreigners must possess sufficient Chinese language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
 
Steps and Methods for Registration

• After filling out the mandatory application forms and printing them out, please attach a two-inch color photo (from the waist up and without hats or caps).

• Required Identification and Information

1. Please sign the application form and send back the original copy

2. Please sign the Notice of Collecting, Processing, and Use of Personal Data Agreement Form and send back the original copy (see Annex 1). (https://bit.ly/3Trdu8q)

3. Please write a physical copy of an autobiography, between 2000 to 2500 words in length (see Annex 2) (https://bit.ly/3TpJ0Uh) and mail it back; please also send in the digital version via email.

4. Please include a self-evaluation of your health condition (see Annex 3). (https://bit.ly/3FDAWts)

5. Please include a health certificate issued within the last three months. For more information, please see the hospital examination checklist (see Annex 4). (https://bit.ly/3TrCkos)
 
(Also, please receive the health examination before the 1st of May, so that you can get your health certificate before the admission deadline.)

Please also include a copy of your electrocardiogram (ECG) (You also need to apply for it from the hospital ) (Please do the body examination before the 1st of May, so that you will be able to get the examination results before the admission deadline) If you have a body illness such as heart disease, epilepsy, tumors, statutory communicable diseases or other hereditary diseases, please be honest and fully disclose detailed information about your condition in the application form and autobiography.

6. Please include a front and back copy of your ID and print them on the same page, or a copy of your passport.

7. Male applicants who have completed their terms of military service must include a copy of their discharge order.

8. Please include a household registration transcript of the entire household within the last three months; you can apply for it at your local household registration office (foreign students are exempted from this).

9. Please include a certificate of your highest education or equivalent academic qualifications.

10. Monks and nuns must include a letter of recommendation from their monastery. Those who have taken the precepts must include a copy of the Buddhist precept certificate.

11. If foreign examinees (non-R.O.C. citizenship) had previously passed the examination, they must prepare the necessary visa documentation as well:

A. The health examination certificate must be issued by a hospital designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare of the Executive Yuan or a qualified foreign hospital. The health examination certificate issued by a foreign hospital must be verified by the overseas mission of the Republic of China. For the examination items, please refer to the "Examination Items for Residence or Settlement" formulated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

B. To apply for a visa and submit a copy of the highest educational degree certificate (which must be accompanied by a Chinese translation for verification), it is necessary to have two stamps affixed by the relevant authorities:

1. The signature of the foreign student's school supervisor.

2. The seal of the local Taiwan office. Both are required and cannot be omitted. (The stamping process can be carried out and submitted after passing the exam.)

C. Monks and nuns need to provide a letter of recommendation from the relevant religious organization abroad (if it is in a foreign language, please also attach a Chinese translation).

13. Please prepare all the required documents before sending them, including the health check report and electrocardiogram.
