Welcoming Guanyin Park

The Welcoming Guanyin is the first holy statue you see when entering the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education.
Its prototype is a creation of Master Sheng Yen. Many times in deep meditation he saw the Bodhisattva coming from the sky to welcome him. The image as related by the Master was first painted by the painter and then made into a statue by the sculptor through many modifications. This bronze statue, eight meters in height, stands on the top of the Elephant Trunk Hill at DDM.

When you gaze at the Welcoming Guanyin from the slope, the statue looks alive. With dress trimmings flowing, she seems to be descending from heaven to our world to welcome everyone. She also looks like a loving mother extending a welcome to young children, who will fling themselves into her arms, seeking consolation and protection. So, before they enter the halls of Dharma Drum Mountain, all the visitors have already felt Guanyin's compasssionate reception.

Behind the statue, the major DDM buildings artistically spread among the lush woods. With the ushering of Welcoming Guanyin, they offer an expansive and deepening view, and make an excellent landscape.
