Becoming a monastic and returning to lay life

There is nothing wrong with returning to lay life once becoming a Buddhist monk. If after making a sincere effort one finds that one's habits and mindset are not suited to monasticism, one can still be a good lay practitioner.

If everyone can say a good word and do a good deed every day, the efforts combined will amount to the greater good for society as a whole. 

Buddhism is a non theistic belief in causes and conditions

The environment we're living in is created by the vows and karma we made in the past lives. We're born in this environment and receive our respective results due to our karma.

We should be constantly aware of our arising thoughts

Practice means mending our ways. We should constantly observe, examine and train our mind to develop it toward the wholesome.
