Distribution of Medical Supplies to Buddhist Centers and Institutes in Myanmar

The outbreak of violence and standstill of health system due to the military coup in Myanmar has caused great suffering to its people amidst the global pandemic. In response, the Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation donated 44 boxes of medical supplies consisting surgical masks, face shields, protective clothing, electronic thermometers, pulse oximeters, blood pressure monitors, and forehead thermometers at the end of July; scheduled to arrive a month later by sea, these supplies reached the Myatmanaw Dharma Yeiktha in Yangon much earlier on August 15.

These supplies were immediately distributed to multiple Buddhist centers and institutes, epidemic prevention agencies as well as local communities even though the monastics at Myatmanaw Dharma Yeiktha were in the midst of the Rains Retreat. This sense of urgency was fueled by the need to protect monks and laypeople from Covid-19 infections.
