On 8 March, 2012, Abbot President Venerable Guo Dong was invited to attend the 80th anniversary of Cheng Ching Hospital in Taichung City, to give an inspirational talk to the hospital’s physicians and nurses.
This was the Abbot President’s second invitation to give a Dharma talk at Cheng Ching since 1999. The talk began with Venerable Guo Yun of DDM’s Baoyun Monastery in Taichung, instructing the attendees to relax their vexed minds and stressed bodies.
In line with ‘Protecting the Spiritual Environment’, the Abbot President shared his perspectives on the notion of causality, living at present, and how to maintain a positive attitude in adverse circumstances, encouraging every medical personnel to fulfill their life with great compassion, and to make great vows of nurturing their own merits in life.
President of Cheng Ching Hospital, Dr. Chin-De Lin, said that birth, aging, sickness, and dead is principal in Buddhism and that physicians and nurses stand at the forefront of engaging them. He also said that compassion towards life as taught in Buddhism has been valuable.
Vice President of Taichung’s Cheng Ching Hospital, Dr. Chin-Jien Chang, who had never attended a meditation program at the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education, said that he was very much inspired by the ideas of the late Venerable Master Sheng Ye, and that he believed that the ideas of ‘Protecting the Spiritual Environment’ and ‘the Six Ethics of the Mind’ would be precious assets that all physicians and nurses working at Cheng Ching should be mindful of.
