In light of the negative impact of global warming on human beings, Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) hosted the "2008 Great Compassion Liberation Rite of Water and Land" from November 28th to December 5th 2008. This event was held at the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education in Jinshan Township, Taipei County in the hope of bringing peace and happiness to all people.

With the aim of promoting an academic exchange of Sangha Education, on the morning of the 25th August 2008, seventy Buddhist venerables from mainland China, Thailand and Vietnam visited the Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhist Education in Jinshan Township, Taipei County.
On 11 January 2008, seven honored Venerables and nine lay practitioners from Sri Lanka paid their first visit to the Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) in Jinshan Township, Taipei County, to participate in religious and cultural exchanges at the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education.
On the morning of 6 January 2008, Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) hosted the 13th Buddhist Wedding at the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education in Jinshan Township, Taipei County.

On the eve of the new lunar year, 6 February 2008, approximately one thousand Buddhists packed the Dharma Drum Mountain World Centre for Buddhist Education in Jinshan, Taipei, to celebrate the arrival of the Lunar New Year.

Ten honored venerables and Buddhist professionals from The Buddhist Association of China (BAC) in mainland China paid their first visit to the Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhist Education in Jinshan Township, Taipei County on the morning of 14 July 2008.

Venerable Master Sheng Yen endeavors to close the gap between Buddhism and society, in the hope of introducing more people to realize a Pure Land on Earth.

The Third International Conference on the Linguistics of Chinese-language Buddhist Sutras jointly hosted by Dharma Drum Buddhist College and National Chengchi University ended successfully on 3 November 2008. The Conference was held at the International Conference Hall of DDM World Center for Buddhist Education in Jinshan Township, Taiwan.
On the morning of 6 October, 2008, nine visitors, including professors from the Global College of Long Island University in the United States, arrived at Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) World Centre for Buddhist Education for a four-day program of religious and spiritual learning.
As political and economic ties between Africa and Asia grow, it is important that the religious leaders of the two continents collaborate closely; to share experiences of humanitarian works, and to ponder over interfaith opportunities, challenges, cooperation and interactions. This is necessary to cultivate global compassion which would greatly "uplift the character of humanity" in accordance to Dharma Drum Mountain's philosophy of peace and harmony.
