Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation Protecting, fulfilling, achieving sentient beings
A thousand arms to protect, a thousand eyes to perceive

Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation
Dharma Drum Mountain’s charitable activities originated in 1956, when Master Sheng Yen’s teacher , Ven. Master Dong Chu, in the spirit of Buddhist compassion, started winter-time relief activities aimed at low-income families enabling underprivileged social groups to enjoy the Chinese New Year season.
On September 21, 1999, the 921 Earthquake struck Taiwan. Dharma Drum Mountain immediately provided emergency relief to the victims, and established Peace of Mind Relief Stations in the disaster areas, to provide the affected with long term service and help them rebuild their lives.

In 2001, the Stations and the Merit Fields Society were integrated in order to further actualize emergency relief and extend care work, thereby becoming Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation.

Since its inception, the Foundation has been extending loving care to all those suffering and in need, with “Protecting the Spiritual Environment” as its mainstay and “extending practical comprehensive care” as its guiding principle, with an attitude of respect, and the spirit of personal esteem. We hope to establish a concept of social relief and assistance offering “ relief to the spirit, complemented by material relief”. By making the most of our limited resources we hope to bring into play an infinite force as we strive to carry out care services both at home and abroad.

In the future, the Foundation will continue to uphold Master Sheng Yen’s ideal of education through care, in order to uplift the character of humanity and build a pure land on Earth.

Care and Concern
The process of learning to care for and help others brings joy and personal growth. We regard those who receive our care as opportunities to cultivate our merit and gratitude.

Through the process of giving and receiving, caring, and mutual learning, we hope to introduce more positive thinking to society, so that it becomes filled with harmony and kindness, facilitating the realization of a pure land on Earth.

Since its establishment in 2001, the Foundation’s many charitable works have proceeded smoothly and undergone steady growth, winning appreciation and recognition from many organizations and individuals, thanks to many philanthropists and benefactors. In 2005, the Taiwan Ministry of the Interior rated the Foundation as “Excellent”, from among 134 charitable foundations. It proves that the Foundation’s many years of dedication to domestic and overseas emergency relief, home visits to the disadvantaged, and provision of stipend , have been recognized by society.

Count our blessings and cultivate our merit.  We hope you can join us

To continue our charitable work, we need widespread support from all walks of society. We hope to join efforts from within society to bring both material and spiritual care to those in need, helping them leave misery behind and embark on a brighter life.

Cultivating good causes results in blessings. We invite you to join our charitable efforts by making a donation. In addition, we need more volunteers both at home and abroad to help with home care visits, disaster and emergency relief, overseas volunteers, free clinic medical staff, teachers for counseling, and so on. We hope more devotees can join us, working together to relieve suffering.

Volunteers in our foundation may differ in talent and character, but everyone is treading the Bodhisattva path by relieving suffering and bringing happiness. By optimizing our limited resources in helping those in need, volunteers have created infinite good causes and planted infinite merit, benefiting both others and themselves.

(Every donor will receive a receipt, regardless of the amount donated. Your kindness has added warmth to our society, bringing happiness to the suffering.)

A grateful heart, grateful to you
