On the afternoon of 8 August, 2012, the President of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Mr. Ying-Jeou Ma presented a special award to Abbot President Venerable Guo Dong in appreciation of Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation's exceptional work on reconstruction efforts in southern Taiwan following Typhoon Morakot on 7 August, 2009.
The Dharma Drum Mountain offers its deepest condolence on the death of His Eminence Cardinal Paul Shan (Kuo-Hsi, Shan), who had died at the age of 90 on the evening of 22 August 2012 after a long battle with lung cancer.

The Peace of Mind Relief Station of DDM Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF) in Jiaxian City of Kaohsiung hosted a 3–day summer camp for 100 financially disadvantaged students living in remote villages.
An inauguration ceremony was held on the morning of 28 June 2012, to celebrate the successful completion of the second phase of construction at Shuxue Township, Sichuan.
