Master Sheng Yen continued Ven. Master Dong Chu’s aspiration to carry out Buddhist education by founding the Chung-Hwa Institute of Buddhist Education in 1985. With the increasing amount of tasks in popular Buddhist education, Dharma propagation, and cultural undertaking, Nung Chan Monastery gradually became insufficient in space. In 1989, some 1,000 devotees gathered together to chant the Great Compassion Dharani, praying for finding the land. Soon the land was acquired, for the construction of the future Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhist Education. From Nung Chan Monastery to Dharma Drum Mountain, more and more disciples were joining the Master’s effort to help people explore their inner mountain of treasure, continuing to create stories between the teacher and disciples.
