Taipei City Government awards Chung Hwa Institute of Buddhist Culture and Nung Chan Monastery for long-term contributions to local communities

The Chung Hwa Institute of Buddhist Culture (CHIBC) and Nung Chan Monastery of Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) were once again awarded by Taipei City Government for their long-term contributions to local communities.

The Awards Ceremony, held on 17th December 2008, was presented by the Department of Civil Affairs division of the Taipei City Government at the International Convention Centre of the National Taiwan University Hospital. The Prior of Nung Chan Monastery, Venerable Guo Can, and the Abbot of CHIBC, Venerable Jian Xin, attended the ceremony to receive the awards from the Deputy Mayor of the Taipei City Government, Dr. Wu Ching-Ji.

The Deputy Mayor said in his speech that the growth of a healthy city relies on the devotion and enthusiasm of local communities and non-profit organizations in addition to the development of infrastructure. He went on to say that if we hope for society to walk on the path of goodness, then it is important to publicly recognize good people and good deeds to help set role models of for others.

Forty six organizations were awarded to recognize their long term involvement in relief work, charitable work, social and educational work.
