Abbot President Makes a Speech at the National Immigration Agency

On the morning of 18 April 2012, Abbot President Venerable Guo Dong was invited by the Director General of the National Immigration Agency (NIG), Li-Kung Hsieh, to deliver a speech to around one hundred NIG staff members.

The Abbot President encouraged the NIG employees to maintain a thankful and peaceful mind by sharing his personal experience of Chan (Zen) practice and its applications in a stressful working environment.

The Abbot President said that Dharma education is the teaching of one to become awakened; separating truth from illusions and vexations. He encouraged the audience to tackle challenges by considering different perspectives of the problem in order to devise a solution – a process that takes learning itself. The Abbot President advocated that those who work at public agencies are in fact given a fine opportunity to practice virtue whilst taking care of public interests.

The visit drew to a close with exchanging of gifts amidst heartwarming applause.
