Distinguished NCTU Alumni Receive Spiritual Teachings

On 16 June, 2007, 200 selected National Chiao Tong University (NCTU) alumni paid their first visit to the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education, Jinshan, Taipei, with an entourage including family members and university staff. The visit was organized meticulously by Zaixin Chew, President of Hong Gah Museum and NCTU alumni, and DDM General Association of Dharma Upholders.

It was a dream come true for the 200 delegates in attendance who received teachings on Dharma and Chan meditation from Venerable Master Sheng Yen himself and Abbot President, Venerable Guo Dong.

The group was warmly greeted by the Venerable Master, who was delighted to see such willingness and enthusiasm in the NCTU alumni's participation in Chan meditation and Dharma education. He went onto explain that DDM World Center for Buddhist Education is not a Chinese temple, but an education center dedicated to academic studies as well as public education through various outreach programs and community service.

This philosophy extends to all DDM educational ministries including Dharma Drum Sangha University, Chinese Institute of Buddhist Studies, Dharma Drum Buddhist College and Dharma Drum University, which is currently under construction. They aim to nurture talent who promote and embody compassionate vows to society.

The Venerable Master hopes that the mindset of future generations would ameliorate through the wisdom and compassion of Dharma. He is hopeful that all individuals can become seeds of virtue amidst the nurturing of Dharma, dedicated in building a pure land on Earth. Venerable Guo Dong exemplified and interpreted the meaning and significance of the notion of "living in the present".

Following the tour of the Grand Buddha Hall, the Wish-Fulfilling Guanyin Hall, the Chan Hall and the Lotus Bell, Venerable Guo Ji taught the Eight-Form Moving Meditation and the breath-counting method to the group which aims to increase awareness to every movement within one's body, breath and mind.

The visit concluded on a high note with much peace and immense gratitude for DDM and especially to the Venerable Master and the Abbot President.
