DDMSWCF attends the 2010 Aid and International Development Forum
Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF) attended the 2010 Aid and International Development Forum (AIDF) held at Washington Convention Center of Washington D.C., United States of America, from 22nd to 23rd July 2010.
Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Health, the Fubon Cultural & Educational Foundation, and the Red Cross Society of the Republic of China (Taiwan) were also present at the event.
During this two-day event, DDMSWCF shared with the international community experiences from its global relief work, as well as its intention to expand its cooperative network of international humanitarian relief.
DDMSWCF took advantage of the opportunity to introduce to the audience and VIP guests the concept of protecting one’s spiritual environment, a concept which the Late Venerable Master Sheng Yen was most passionate about, followed by a showing of a documentary film.
DDMSWCF emphasized that apart from the traditional mode of offering physical relief, the offering of spiritual relief to the survivors should not be neglected, this raises a key element of the need to help one to calm one’s own mind especially amidst adversities.
As vividly demonstrated in Sichuan’s post-disaster reconstruction works, whereby constructions such as the Xiushui Primary School and Xiushui’s Medical Care Center, efficiently helped quake-affected victims and students to quickly return to normalcy, as well as helping them calm their minds.
DDMSWCF’s focus is on extending loving care to those in need with ‘protecting one’s spiritual environment’ as its mainstay, delivered together with material relief.
DDMSWCF reiterated that its vision is to continue to contribute in its social charity work, in line with the teachings of the Late Master Sheng Yen to ‘uplift the character of humanity and to build a pure land on earth’.
