Deputy Director of Religious Affairs Department in Sichuan Expressed Gratitude to DDMSWCF for Humanitarian Achievements in Xiushui Township
After the devastating earthquake that struck Xiushui Township, in the northern Sichuan Province of China in 2008, Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF) initiated post-disaster reconstruction projects which have finally reaped results.
The First Primary School and Health Care Centre are due to be completed on 3 June 2010. These remarkable works are coordinated in accordance to the vision proposed by the late Master Sheng Yen of ‘Protecting the Spiritual Environment’. These projects aim to provide a peaceful place to study for quake-afflicted students and healthcare needs to victims.
On May 16, 2010, the Deputy Director of Religious Affairs Department in Sichuan, Mr. Xiaoheng Yu, visited the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education in Jinshan Township. On behalf of Xiushui residences he expressed gratitude for the warm compassion displayed by DDM, the Sangha Community and DDMSWCF.
Post-disaster reconstruction project director, Venerable Guo Pin and the Deputy Abbot of DDM welcomed Mr. Yu and organized for a guided tour of DDM. Together they visited the Wish Fulfilling Guanyin Hall, the Founding History Memorial Hall, the Grand Buddha Hall, the Chan Hall, the Dharma Drum Buddhist College and the land planed for the future Dharma Drum University.
Aside from delivering the utmost sincere gratitude, Deputy Director Yu said that not only has he gained a better understanding of the wisdom of ‘Spiritual Environmentalism’ proposed by the Master, but was furthermore impressed by the DDM’s works in promoting environmentalism and spiritual care.
Venerable Guo Pin said that the First Primary School in Xiushui was designed to integrate into its surrounding environment naturally and harmoniously. Similarly, the buildings were constructed with the concept of ‘being green’, thereby greatly reducing the gaps between the students and nature and students and the campus. In effect, students can study at ease. As for the Heath Care Centre, it was built to provide improved medical services to the entire community.
