DDM has hosted the Buddhist-style joint birthday celebration for the elderly for twenty consecutive years at every branch monastery. The purpose of the event is to promote filial virtue of respecting and loving our parents and the event is usually held around the time of the Double Ninth Festival. This year DDM Anhe Branch Monastery hosted the event on October 10 with over 500 elders and their family members participating. Participation rate was at a record high compared to previous years and the atmosphere was warm and touching.
On 27 April 2013, the Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF) hosted an event to encourage and to offer stipends to financially disadvantaged students at the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education.
Delegates of the Focolare Movement visited the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education on 15 April 2013 and conducted an interfaith dialogue with the Dharma Drum Buddhist College’s students and the DDM Sangha.
On the afternoon of 14th of April 2013, Abbot President of Dharma Drum Mountain, Venerable Guo Dong, went to the National Cheng Kung University in Tainan City to introduce to the values of the Six Ethics of the Mind. 1,500 people attended the speech.
On 24 March 2013, 30 high-ranking media officials from mainland China paid their first visit to the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education.
On the morning of 10 April 2013, a delegation of the Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University came to the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education for a prayer session, in celebration of the school’s 66th anniversary.
On 21 April 2013, about a thousand people came to the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education to take Buddhism as their spiritual refuge.
On 24 March 2013, 18 Buddhist practitioners from Leadership & Communication Skills of Tung Lin Kok Yuen Wang Fat Ching She, Hong Kong, visited the Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhist Education.
In the evening of 21 April 2013, the Abbot President of Dharma Drum Mountain came to Taiwan’s National Theater’s plaza to join with several tens of thousands of people to pray together for Taiwan and the world.
On the afternoon of 20 March 2013, 30 students of the Dharma Drum Sangha University and volunteers gathered at a beach near the Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhist Education in the Jinshan District of New Taipei City for a beach cleanup campaign.
At a farmhouse in a bamboo grove, some 30 years ago Master Sheng Yen became Abbot of Nung Chan Monastery, continuing Master Dong Chu’s tradition of practice, inspiring multitudes to learn about and uphold the Buddhadharma.
