As political and economic ties between Africa and Asia grow, it is important that the religious leaders of the two continents collaborate closely; to share experiences of humanitarian works, and to ponder over interfaith opportunities, challenges, cooperation and interactions. This is necessary to cultivate global compassion which would greatly "uplift the character of humanity" in accordance to Dharma Drum Mountain's philosophy of peace and harmony.
Dharma Drum Mountain's relief team successfully completed their six-day humanitarian operation in offering aid to quake-affected victims in Peru, with up to 1,600 households (more than 5,000 victims) receiving both material and spiritual benefits.
On the morning of 12 October 2007, Director of Commercial Office of Peru in Taipei, Mr. Jose Eyzaguirre, his wife and six other parliamentarians from Peru paid their first visit to Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhist Education in Jinshan Township, Taipei County to express their utmost gratitude to DDM's humanitarian work in Peru, following the earthquake that occurred on 15 August, 2007.
To commemorate the hardships encountered by the Most Venerable Master Dong Chu and Venerable Master Sheng Yen's journey in finding Dharma Drum Mountain, the DDM Sangha Community organized a walking pilgrimage on 18 April 2007.
Following the signed agreement in December 2006 between Sheng Yen Education Foundation and Columbia University, the Sheng Yen Professorship in Chinese Buddhist Studies was formally inaugurated on 10 May 2007. This is the world’s first permanent professorship chair in Chinese Buddhism for academic research.
The Anhe Branch Monastery of Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM/Fagushan) hosted a special festival at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall in Taipei on 13 May 2007, which combined the commemoration of Buddha’s birthday with Mother’s Day.
For the first time on Chinese New Year's Eve, the Lotus Bell was sounded at Dharma Drum Mountain World Center for Buddhist Education to bring blessing and peace.
Following a near month-long exhibition in Tainan throughout June, Venerable Master Sheng Yen's Chinese calligraphy artworks were moved to Taichung City's Shinkong Mitsukoshi Department for display from 27 July to 5 August 2007.
Dharma Drum Mountain's The First Edition of The International Caring of Life Awards (ICLA) in 2007 goes to the Teacher Chang Foundation and Chief Executive Officer of the Shepherd Life Association, Ms. Wu Meili.
The Abbot President of Dharma Drum Mountain, Venerable Guo Dong visited Ilan County on the afternoon of 13 October, 2007 to promote the Six Ethics. The Six Ethics were developed by Venerable Master Sheng Yen to raise social harmony and peace.
