Promoting Chinese Buddhism had always been a mission of the founder of Dharma Drum Mountain, Master Sheng Yen, who considered Buddhist education as being essential to the future development of Chinese Buddhism. The second Forum on Chinese Buddhism in Recent and Contemporary History, organized by the Sheng Yen Education Foundation, took place at Baoyun Monastery in Taichung from December 18 to 20, 2016, drawing around 20 scholars from Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, France, and the US, who dealt with the problems and challenges of modern Chinese Buddhism in terms of Buddhism education, as well as its future opportunities and direction.

On the 15th of April 2012, the Refuge-Taking Ceremony 2012 took place at the DDM World Center for Buddhist Education.
From 3 to 6 May , 2012, the Xinxing Monastery of Dharma Drum Mountain in Taitung City, eastern Taiwan, organized a series of activities within the monastery in celebration of Vesak Day and Mother’s Day.

The Abbot President attended a new book press release of His former Eminence Cardinal Paul Kuo-His Shan in the afternoon of 22 April 2012.
On the morning of the 5th of May 2012, Nung Chan Monastery held a prayer ritual and a gala party to celebrate Vesak Day and Mother’s Day and to arouse one’s awareness of environmentalism.
The Dharma Drum Mountain Social Welfare and Charity Foundation (DDMSWCF) works hard on the ideal of ‘Spiritual Environmentalism’.
On the morning of 18 April 2012, Abbot President Venerable Guo Dong was invited by the Director General of the National Immigration Agency (NIG), Li-Kung Hsieh, to deliver a speech to around one hundred NIG staff members.

On 13 May 2012 (also the Mother’s Day) Dharma Drum Mountain celebrated Vesak Day. Celebrations took place at the plaza of Taipei City Government and at the plaza of the National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall, where almost ten thousand people gathered to practice Chan meditation and the Eight Form Moving Meditation.
